Rapid antipsychotic drug concentrations now available

Health Canada has licensed five laboratory assays for measuring drug concentrations in patients prescribed the six most common antipsychotic drugs. HLS is the only Canadian distributor of these assays.

Intended Use

The MyCare Psychiatry Drug Assay Kits are intended for the in vitro quantitative measurement of antipsychotic drugs in human serum and plasma using automated clinical chemistry analyzers.  Measurements obtained are used for monitoring patient adherence to antipsychotic drug therapy to help ensure appropriate treatment.

Rapid insights to help establish the right dose when it matters most

• Rapid, accurate and easy to perform
• Ready to use on automated analyzers already present in clinical labs
• <30 minutes to generate a result after receipt in lab
• Testing can be performed STAT
• Testing can be offered 24/7

Established guidelines

Clinical guidelines recommend or strongly recommend the routine measuring and monitoring of antipsychotic (APS) drug concentrations. Canadian Schizophrenia Guidelines, recommend Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM) as a useful tool to facilitate the ability of clinicians to correctly identify non-adherent patients

• The Maudsley Prescribing Guidelines in Psychiatry
• Joint Consensus Statement of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and TDM Task Force of the AGNP

Opportunity to help improve patient care

Hospitalization and readmission rates in Canada remain high. Totaling approximately 2 million hospital days annually, schizophrenia and psychotic disorders rank #1 for total length of hospital stay among mental health disorders.1

It’s Important

MyCare Psychiatry provides rapid insights to establish the right dose when it matters most.1 In light of the serious consequences of unsuccessful treatment, the value of having rapid access to information that may be used to reorient the treatment cannot be overstated. Timely knowledge of antipsychotic plasma levels of patients with complicated courses of treatment would allow prescribers to make highly consequential decisions based on data rather than guesswork.2
